On 11/17/08 I accepted a position with United Cerebral Palsy as Administrator of our Conductive Education School here in Arkansas. My son, who has worked with me for the last several years plans to continue to make available most of the “mainstay items”. He’ll begin taking orders sometime after the first of the new year.
I will post a link to his yet undeveloped web page when he gets ready to resume producing the CE items. In the meantime, I plan to continue to making this site available for reference sake as well as answer inquires as they may be posed.
I have
spent a good deal of my adult years as a journeyman
woodworker making trendy things for retail businesses that
would soon be unappreciated and/or cast off when the next
trend appeared. Growing older seems to awaken awareness and
a desire to spend ones remaining years in a way that would
bring help and hope to others. I was at that place in my
life when I was introduced to Conductive Education. A woman
at our church (Leslie Porter) asked me if I would be
interested in making some furniture items for a school she
hoped to start up for children with CP/motor challenges. Out
from that grew the first conductive education school in
Arkansas.
Over the
last 4 ˝ years some of the things we have tried have worked
and some have not. The items that we have put up on this
site are those that are the ‘necessities” of Conductive
Education. However, our delight is to be made aware of
special individual needs that require ingenuity and
invention that another might reach out and further grasp
their potential. THAT is value! THAT is purpose!
Our hope
is to offer affordable, quality, “abuse resistant” furniture
that will serve to help those seeking further independence.
